Chess Dreams

I never have dreams per se (I never remember my dreams anyway) but the night before tourneys, and in between nights, I compose problems while I'm laying there subconsciously... How weird is that?

I had as I was still playing otb tournaments sometimes I played 4 tournaments a week I was dreaming about knight moves. That was very strange dreams. the knights would jump around like in 3D.
I never have nightmares for many years but this was nearly as uncomfortable as a nightmare.

Something taught in school is that we should all use original work, but enjoy the topic. It is fine with me.

Do any of you play chess so much that you dream about chess moves in your sleep? Just curious.
No Chess Moves. But once, in my dream, I was late to a chess tournament.

It is a very interesting topic. I have solved tough math problems in my sleep and was curious about dreams. Enjoy the topic on my page or here. Great discussion.

Sometimes. If you think about chess alot you probably will. I had one the other night, it was pretty lucid and remembered the moves after I woke up. Now I forgot it.

I often see short sequences of chess moves in my dreams, pertaining to my correspondence (3 days per move) games in progress. Usually these reveal a flaw in my plans, as if my subconscious mind continuously analyzes in the background, and then occasionally decides to report interesting findings to the concious mind. When, upon awakening, I examine these findings of my susbconcious mind, they are usually correct.

If I played an important game and made and lost I could not turn off my subconcious from finding the error in my game this prevented me from sleeping and thus I had to stop play otb chess cause I was at a tournament till 12 at night and have to wake up at 6 in the morning. With chess I couldn't sleep if I lost.

I have had exactly the same problem -- trying to turn off my "mental chess engine" that wants to keep analyzing long after the game is over. This is especially a problem if I play past 11pm at OTB tournaments, which is often unavoidable if I play a Friday night round. No doubt some of the mental restlessness results from leftover adrenaline in the bloodstream. This is brutal when the next round is at 9am! Speed-chess makes this problem even worse.
I guess this excess mental stimulation is the price we pay because we care so much about chess, and because of our instinctive fight-flight response. Valerian root, a safe herbal, has helped me get to sleep in these situations.

I don't know if this counts as a chess dream.
I was dreaming that I was at a chess tournament.
but then I got to the playing area people were playing badminton with chess pieces as "feather ball"

I had a couple of chess dreams awhile back. One was at night with a long window and landing strip outside (plane and everything) and another I got my butt kicked by an Indian kid in a rook and knight ending. Despite winning I somehow threw it away. I don't remember the exact position but I remember rooks on the fourth and fifth and I had queenside majority three vs. two. Kingside had three vs. three. I played someone else in the same dream but got creamed in the opening =(
My favorite dreams though are when I'm flying, preferably in weird otherworldly places.
