Hello to you and Thanks for the post.

ratatouie

you betcha n ty for your spontanious reply. can u please teach me chess

badenwurtca

Thanks for the new post. On the subject of Chess you would probably need to contact somebody who is better at the game than you are. I'm not very good at the game so I'm not much help to people who want to improve their level of play.

ratatouie

but u r better than i am

Unfortunately, we're all too old to teach you chess -- we have our hands full just trying to remember it!

We all know about the many studies that tell us that as we age our brain begins to go downhill. Also the experts do give us some bit of hope tho that using the old grey matter can be helpful in slowing down the mental decline ( enter Chess and Bridge as fun games that also work the mind ). For example there are still a few players around who like myself actually started playing Chess BEFORE Bobby Fischer won the World Championship ( shocking but true  lol ). Before I ramble on too long here --- has any other long-term player noticed the benefits of playing Chess as a person ages ? Or any info on studies done in this area re the benefits of our game here ?

---   Well my doppelganger and I have kept this little old thread on the go for nearly 8 years with the help of a lot of people who have left posts here. Of course some of the rules have changed around here so only time will tell if it is possible to keep this thread going or not.

ratatouie

but u might think im special, or not

You know that you are getting older if you remember spending hours studying record-album cover art.

Ah, yes, the joys of that very first tiny little record player ... and next to it, that slowly growing little stack of 45's -- the ones you bought just for yourself, with your own allowance, so you could listen to that really neat song you'd heard on the radio -- any time you wanted to!

Another way to tell that a person is getting older is when they think a BlackBerry is a fruit. ( & Thanks for the post MIL;  I have to sneak that in now so as to not use up a valuable post because the secret police here have us under the new 3 post limit rule  lol ).

badenwurtca

You can tell you are getting older if: You've located old friends thru the internet, re-established contact, and then remembered why you lost contact with them in the first place.

3 post limit? I was unaware of that!

52yrral

When did that start?

52yrral

Does that apply to post hole diggers as well?

badenwurtca

Yes the new rule started a couple of weeks back. I started some threads that were rather critical of the new policy and in the end I was accused of spamming ( in my own threads yet  lol ). And also Thanks for the posts and bumps.

A cute quote from Bob Hope going back to when he turned 70 regarding men of that age: " You still chase women, but only downhill ".

motherinlaw

"chase"?

badenwurtca

Thanks for the tip Motherinlaw. Yes with English being my 2cnd language I have a lot of fun with words. Mind you I've been over here for more than 55 years now but I still get confused at times.

Probably he cases the women before he chases them happy.png

A cute item from Phyllis Diller as she was getting on a bit in years: " I'm at the age where my back goes out more than I do ".
