Centrist?? ROTFLMAO
Chess for Oldtimers --- Good Idea !

It's true, a lot of people may favor various policies, some of which seem traditional whereas others seem more liberal. I always remember my mother surprising me a bit when a public gay kissing event was shown on TV back in maybe the late 70s/early 80s (I think I was still in college, hard to remember) and my older sister was saying that was gross, and my mother commented about who were these people harming.
My mother I always considered pretty conservative in her views, slightly religious, though not a preachy type. Whereas my older sister was a bit of a hell raiser, and was grounded for a month when she stopped wanting to go to church (she was maybe 16-17 at the time). Ironically, she now goes to church (or did pre-Covid period). So hard to say where people sit on some issues....
One thing most of us old-timers have learned, that most youngsters still don't know: trying to convert other people to our views in politics or religion is a fool's errand. I figure life's too short to waste time on those kinds of un-winable battles. I'd way rather waste time on an un-winable chess game, and it turns out I'm pretty lucky there. I get a Lot of chances to do that. :-)
--- Yes I like the way that you wrote this post Motherinlaw. I seem to have spent a lot of my life on endless fools errands ( eg trying to find logical people here on this planet Rofl ).
One thing that I didn't mention earlier in this thread is the value of Crossword puzzles. Chess and Bridge are known to be useful as exercise for the mind however doing Crosswords is also reported to helpful as well. In my case English is not my first language so Crosswords do require extra patience lol.
In recent years I've become fond of playing Poker again ( for chips only tho lol ). There is a nice site on-line where they play Texas Hold-Em Poker, quite a bit of fun.
My fallback game is Boggle, and I've found an online site for that, too.
--- I've never played Boggle, mind you I see that they now have out a Big Boggle version of that game. While I'm on-line I like to play some poker but only for free chips lol. Also a lot of my on-line time is spent over at YouTube, a great site to be sure.

YouTube has a variety of interesting content- documentaries, music videos, stand up comedy, etc
even chess videos - opening traps, famous games, etc.

You are so right Sandy. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, even Republicans.lol Pointless arguing. I'd rather play chess or read a good book.
" Lying in bed would be an altogether supreme experience if only one had a colored pencil long enough to draw on the ceiling " ( from author GK Chesterson ).
--- I do like this quote a lot lol.

mother in law hows your sister in law
I have 2 sisters-in-law, both fine. Plus one wonderful son-in-law, who's the one who actually introduced me to this site ... is it really 12 years ago? Oh, my. I should have a Much higher rating! Maybe someday I'll actually read a book on chess. And when I do, then ... just watch out, Judit Polgar!

oh mother in law im not sure myself but you judit i say judith polgar but pay me no mind they say i dont know anything.

--- I also like to play Poker online, just for chips tho lol. The thinking part of trying to see what the possible hands at my table might be does get the mind working.
I enjoy a good leftist rant. Watching a meltdown is great COVID entertainment.
--- Well as it happen there are a lot of people who are neither righties or lefties. Yup the centerists are often very busy just trying to live their lives lol.
