--- Thanks for the post Upgrayedd.

One of my favourite funny people of all time was the late great WC Fields and he once said: " If at first you don't succeed try, try again. Then quit. No use being a damn fool about it . "

good thing he's not a cabby ...

Thanks for the post Tkbunny. That reminds me of a comedian from many years ago who liked to have fun with English and who would have said: " I resemble that remark " lol.

"I resemble that remark" -- I'd Thought that was a 3 Stooges line -- I checked -- it was.  (It's always good to be reminded that my head is Still full of useless information ... Cool!)

--- Thanks for the post & info Motherinlaw. I didn't know that it was first used by the 3 Stoogers but it was later brought back by Norm Crosby ( if I have the name right ). Crosby used it as the center-piece of his act and he appeared several times on the Ed Sullivan show.

Thanks for the post Motherinlaw.

Mason Cooley had this to say about the passage of time - Old age: I fall asleep during the funerals of my friends.

its nice to see a comment about w.c. fields. I liked in his movies where he would say one thing and then when the other person asked him what he said he would make up something else. For instance about a misbehaving boy he might say "what a spoiled brat" and when the mother says "what did u say?" he would reply "I said i wish i had a boy like that". Just his physical reactions were often very funny as well.Ahhhhhh yes

--- Thanks for the posts Sirrichardburton. Yes WC Fields was one of the best from the early days of film, mind you I also liked Laurel & Hardy as well.

Nice observation about those W.C. Fields bits, sirrichard!

And speaking about pineapple juice, Salmon, isn't this his most famous quote? --  "I don't drink water.  Fish ____ in it."

And I like these:

"I certainly do Not drink all the time.  I have to sleep, you know."

Sucker:  "Is this a game of chance?"

Fields:  "Not the way I play it, no."

Plus, the one most relevant to me:

Secretary:  "It must be hard to lose your mother-in-law."

Fields:  "Yes it is .. very hard... it's almost impossible."

WC Fields was a very accomplished, world class juggler and pool trick shot artist. I'm pretty sure he worked that into some of his movies. In his youth, he was better known in China than the US.

He spent long periods of time travelling with Vaudeville troops and was prone to lonliness. He discovered that if he carried booze with him, he always had friends. This was also, presumably, the reason he became a heavy drinker.

I remember seeing a documentary years ago about WC's life on PBS, they included some film clips of him juggling and doing pool trick shots. There was also an interesting film done about him that starred Rod Steiger as WC.

Chess for Alzheimer's would be more fun.

They would forget the book and play the craziest opings you ever saw! Kinda like me. Lol

I don't mean to criticize, but I'm not sure you spelled that word right -- Were you thinking of that neurological condition where old people have trouble remembering things?  You know -- the disease that has TV commercials with Clydesdale horses pulling brewery wagons?  You know the one -- "Anheuser's."

I'll take a look at it. Thanks!

Thanks for the post Electricpawn.

Years and years ago I read a book entitled " WC Fields And Me " which was the basis for the film that was made later on. The book was written by a girlfriend of WC who had lived with him for a number of years ( I enjoyed the book and the film as well ).
