if you like history and chess, here's a must read.  it's "Birth of the Chess Queen- A History" by Marilyn Yalom.

the primary focus is taking the reader  on the journey from an impotent piece (Vizar) to the most powerful piece on the board-the queen.  the narrative chronicles the birth, migration and evolution of chess.

relatively easy read crammed with facts and interesting narrative on olden times.
