Wow thanks for sharing, I just found this thread, and I started playing again at 45 after a 28year haitus.  Right now I am just picking up my old rating at 1950 USCF, but this is really encouraging. My goal is 2200 USCF!

I'm 60 years old, and before discovering this site recently the last time I played against a real person was circa 1982.  I last played competitively in 1975. Returning to chess has been difficult, because my mind simply is not what it was in the 1970s.  Still, my goals are to get a rating, no matter how low, and to have fun playing against people at a similar level of skill. I very much enjoy sitting at my chessboard studying the great games of chess history.
