Chess in movies

A chess game in a movie doesn't need to be played well in order for that film to be a good one. Still, I really like the atmosphere of the setting involving a chess board. So when I see a great actor sitting in front of the game I wonder how good he actually is? Does FIDE or anybody ever bother to come up with an elo rating of famous people? It would be quite interesting to see actors or celebrities in general on such a list.

Yes, there have been many articles over the years about celebrities who play chess and detailing whether or not the boards and pieces were set up properly when chess was used in a movie or tv show.

Rather than have us googling them for you, why don't you tell us what great actors you were talking about and the movies you saw them in?

Well, today I saw Michael Caine in Harry Brown and got the idea. Or I remember Mr. Fassbender in X-Men playing chess. These actors look like interesting people so I was wondering if they have an interest in the game. It would also be nice to know if self-assured egomaniacs like Mr. Putin or Erdogan know anything about the game. On my internet research I was surprised about Stanley Kubrick, I knew about Humphrey Bogart, El Che and Castro was a pleasant surprise and Mr. Brando being not good was also interesting. We get other details like Jonny Depp spending 250 mio $ for a chick named Vanessa Paradis or Charlie Sheen being HIV positive. A simple chess elo rating can also tell much about a person, don't You think?
