Don't fall for the ol 'pick up the bishop' trick.
chess in prison - where I am going

I am in my prison cell, I can't sleep. Today is going to be a long day. Breakfast at this prison starts at 7. I wonder what will be served since this is my first full day in this place.
No wonder you can't sleep in prison if you spend the whole night browing the ol' internet and posting on forums. Turn off the computer if you want to sleep!

I just took a photo of my breakfast. This is what they served me.

So, it appears that you also have access to a time machine, as that image was posted in February 2010.
Consider yourself undone, numbnuts.

Internet access after lights-out. Cellphones...
...that's one dainty prison you've got yourself into there.

"Consider yourself undone, numbnuts". PUT EM IN THE HOLE

Your prison has some fancy dinnerware(for a prison).

Well folks, I have recently been convicted of a crime. Tomorrow is my sentencing. It will be a minimum of 10 years in prison.
To be honest, I am a bit nervous. Not so much about dropping the soup, but whether or not I will get to play chess!
Does anyone know anything about chess in prison? Will I be playing chess? I might ask the prison warden if I can have a chess set in m cell, along with a few chess books, and possibly an Internet connection. I will let you know how it goes. Anyone here have experiences with chess in prison?
Well, wish me luck as I face the judge tomorrow.
You wanna be asking the boss man for a dictionary not chess books. Do they allow soup in the showers or is it a shower at the soup kitchen?

That doesn't mean anything. If you seen one neutraloaf, you seen them all.

It's the exact same piece.
If you're interested in the subject then the following BBC Radio 4 interview may be worth checking out as at one point the topic moves onto chess in British prisons (overseas users may struggle to access the programme due to copyright issues, you'll have to find the workaround to that one yourself):

If I recall correctly he mentions it being a valued skill on the inside and being able to give lessons to the other inmates held some weight in currency and protection.
Some of the other episodes are also worth a listen. He interviews a range of people from chess players like Magnus Carlsen, Hou Yifan to sports stars such as lennox Lennox Lewis and politicians whilst playing them at chess.
