Usually in shows or movies, when two people are playing chess, all of the pieces are on the board while they move (without directly showing you the whole board so you can’t tell they are faking) and then suddenly…checkmate

I have been watching The Masters Game program on YouTube. it was a British show on the BBC during the 1980s where GMs of the time play matches with each other and voice overs commenting on each move. it's almost like a mental boxing match.

I thought Queen’s Gambit did a pretty good job of portraying real chess. I believe Kasparov was their consultant.
