Chess is boring for me... What to do?

I just played a few blitz games today. Lost most of them by timeout, and drew one.

I'm a fast player normally, but I can't be that fast in regular chess. When I tried to, I hung a Bishop at move 5 and resigned.

Now I want to make it clear that the title isn't meant to make fun of chess, or neither trying to say it's boring.

I just find it not fun enough, but I want to play it.

I even get distracted and play openings I don't want to, hang pieces and play bad.

I want to make chess more fun and improve at it. Which I think I could if I wanted to, but it just makes me bored and finish a game instantly when I blunder, or even a mistake. Probably because I'm not that good, and I want to improve but I get bored... endless cycle. I would like to join OTB events but I want to improve first and slow chess would be too boring for me.

Now you might wonder why am I at a chess site when it's boring for me. Well, I mostly play Bughouse, Atomic and some bullet here and I like Bughouse and Atomic more than regular chess.

But since Bughouse and other variants aren't as much popular and appreciated as regular chess, it feels like a time waste. I still do what I enjoy, though.

I'm thinking of 2 | 0 but pairings take forever.

So, time to ask:

Any tips to make chess more fun, or any alternatives?

I figured out why I am so slow, I suck at endgames. I probably got to study some endgames and chess. Endgames drain my time like a dry towel.

And maybe getting better at chess will help me making chess more fun.

Endgames are indeed very important

I think if you stick with a strategic opening with your own little twist and memorise the strong points and weak points of it through the mid game, it will make a more interesting climax of your run. I was suffering from not really knowing how to prepare for a stronger position in my end game and I started to develop my own opening and by repeating it for months now I can enjoy chess way more because you can actually see where you need to improve. Also: stop playing so much blitz if you want to develop your end game. You need longer games to actually think about strategy, in my opinion

Thanks for the comment, but I mentioned longer time controls are boring for me. I want chess to be fun, not easy.

I can't, I'm a bread.

if you toast the pieces lightly before playing, you might enjoy the game more.

What if I'm a cannibal?

you will get disqualified for eating your opponent.

What if I eat the 'toasted' pieces?

that’s grand but you should “capture” them first.

Why again do you want to play chess if you find it boring?

Hmm. That's actually a good point.

There's many things; OTB events, the feeling of playing chess at a professional level, nothing to do, improving tactical thinking, it is fun while it is boring (?)...

And protecting the number that's called an "Elo", I like big numbers. (!)

Nah. Too much work for me. I prefer sitting in a chair infront of a computer for hours and tilt. (!)

This thread is getting out of topic, can we be more serious please?

If you dont want to change chess to kayaking then try to play bullet and accordion simultaneously so you wont just have time to get bored
