It isn't my job to enlighten you. Look elsewhere for your attention please.

We have a long wasy to go and haven't really got down to the neolithic but it's built onto massive trenches cut into the bedrock. Obviously Stone Age. I'll try to post a pic but having laptop trouble. Possibly Mesolithic.

Is there a discussion about archaeology or palaeontology that I missed here?

Everything doesn't have to be about you, sorry. :-)

Oh dear oh dear. Translation: "I'm wrong, but don't want to admit it". You're funny! grin.png grin.png grin.png

And you were seeking a fight the moment you came here. You are not worthy of one with me. Do I need to block you too? LADY? (I use that term loosly), please just GO AWAY.

Avatar of Bel3141592

"Not worthy".

The GIANT EGO! Wow. No, simply questioning the claims made by someone online, on a PUBLIC FORUM, and asking that person to substantiate or justify such claims, is what normal people do. The old legal cliche applies here; "The burden of evidence lies with the claimant".

And no, I clearly was not "seeking a fight". I would select someone more worthy for that! grin.png

Anyway, go ahead and block! See if I care.

Avatar of isolani-d4

you do <snicker> or you wouldn't have come back to continue. Come back when you become an adult. I might even unblock you then.

ADDED: All done! Blocked! So simple.

All I did was question your asinine claim that "all is mathematics". I gave examples of why that's not the case, and you just couldn't handle that. You just had to spit the dummy instead. cry

And don't bother unblocking. Since you clearly haven't actually thought through your position on the subject that caused this little argument in the first place, I see no point in continuing.

Here's a virtual lollypop. Go suck on it. happy.png

I told you to believe what you wanted. YOU WOULD NOT LET IT DROP. It is my right to stop the conversation or haven't you learned that lesson yet? You are displaying an immaturity which is quite shocking. GROW UP.

ADDED: GO _____ YOURSELF

Why do people say that chess is an art? Chess is pretty much the complete opposite of art. There are two sides of the brain: the logical/reasoning side and the creative/artistical side, and chess is all logic and reasoning. It's all precise calculations and deep thinking in order to find a rational solution.

I enjoy chess, but I do not believe that it is an art. It may or may not be a sport, but I will not go into that in this topic. But let's look at the reasons why some people think it is an art:

1. The chessboard is like a canvas where you can develop whatever crazy ideas you think of onto it.

2. The moves are like a symphony of music that flow together so well, but if one incorrect move is wrong, it makes the whole thing flawed.

What are your thoughts?

in my opinion, i think chess is art

I was describing a local dig where I'm often to be found scraping around on hands and knees with a brickies' trowel uncovering weird and wondrous patterns in stone from over 3850 years ago.

A run of the mill bronze age burial site has become something completely amazing and only 5 miles from home.

Mathematics is a modelling device. So you can model a lot of things with it. That's all.

Yep, some folks have no concept of molecular physics but feel they're experts. It's the Dunning-Kruger effect.

I don't believe in the Dunning Kruger thing. It's too easy to use to put someone down and what's it supposed to mean? Something like the more you say you're right, the more wrong you are statistically, since a lot of people who speak loudly have badly formed opinions?

But, after all, you can't use statistical probability to show that someone's wrong. Because you could be talking to the person who's right. Well, you kniow what I'm trying to say. Anyway, she's pretty and pretty intelligent too.

No problem - to each their own which was my point originally.

I don't believe pigs can fly either but that doesn't mean they can't. "Absence of evidence doesn't mean evidence of absence." -Dr. Carl Sagan wink

Now people DO use that one when talking about my brain. A kind of damning with faint praise.

Avatar of isolani-d4

hahah! Love it! Well there's no denial about your brain AND your tenacity. I've been on similar digs earlier in my life. My back will never be the same. meh

Can't be bothered to read all the previous posts, but here my two cents anyway:

1°) The thread got bumped from 15 years ago...

2°) Meanwhile, the OP surely learned what a figure of speech is.

Y'know, like when you say "This is Hell!" without any actual Hell from the Bible to happen.
