I mean, if you search up the internet it's obviously a sport. There shouldn't be any questions about that. The post above is just a joke, I don't want to be harassed.
Chess is sport?

1 vote its a sport. Because we can play chess with mobile, We also can play tournament in real physical games !!

Every so often someone starts this topic again. It goes through the motions, both sides give their opinions, and why. It always ends up being decided that chess is not a sport. For all the reasons the "chess is a sport" side cannot reconcile. So the topic goes away after a while.
Then a new bunch surfaces and the same story repeats. This one will end like they always do. The shortcut to the end; chess is not a sport.

I would say no. For me there is three elements to something being a sport:
There needs to be a physical element - chess has this as stamina is important and it can be a draining game.
There needs to be a tactical element - chess definitely has this.
There needs to be a technical element - there is no technique in chess, you just move the pieces. In e-sports you need to both think when tired and operate the controller, whereas in chess there is no advantage in how well you physically move the pieces.
So I wouldn't regard chess as a sport. I could be tempted to think that 1-minute bullet chess can be if the speed in moving pieces gives an advantage. But I'm not convinced there is any technique to work on if playing games longer than one minute.
I would say the same about bridge and poker, where you just put cards/bets down. Some people might argue that keeping a poker face is a technique so trying to avoid cues can make something a sport. I'm less convinced this matters in chess, but I think it possibility might to some degree.

Be careful. If this thread becomes serious, there are several trolls who will quickly descend upon it and start quoting the most limited English dictionaries available. In those dictionaries, sports are always athletic.

Most of these are played competitively, so yeah. But Tic-Tac-Toe obviously isn't (was that a joke on your part?).
Oxford Dictionary of English:
”chess | tʃɛs |
noun [mass noun]
a board game (…)”
(moderators, you can close this thread now.)
Chess is not a sport.
