Chess isn't much of an intelligent game

All the pieces have defined moves, as long as you keep your mind where your own and opponent's pieces can move on the board at all times, you'll do fine.
There's stuff like baiting your opponent into moving a piece here and there or to make something else vulnerable. Other than that, chess has a low skill floor and an even lower skill ceiling.
And when do you think chess went from being a romantic game where you came up with plans, threw a bunch of stuff at the wall and saw what stuck while hoping to get a brilliancy vs when it became a clinical execution game where you just imitate learned patterns. What chess was better ? The one where you did poker or the one where you do find waldo?
Chess was certainly at its peak during the romantic era, skill-wise and entertainment-wise. Back then, players relied on their RAW TALENT to win. There's no "intelligence" in chess, its just talent and luck. Nowadays, people win with better opening prep. Whoever memorizes the opening more will have a better plan and thus a better game. They will easily snowball their better opening position to a win. That's how players like Kasparov, Anand, Fischer, and Kramnik became world champions. They had better opening prep. Nothing else mattered. They had the talent of a 2000 rated player but their opening prep was so strong they could easily snowball their lead against any world-class player right out of the opening.

Chess improves you as a Person for sure
Nope, no it doesnt. Look at ben finegold. It made him into a negative elitist toxic person...his behavior should have repercussions like being temporarily banned. However, ive noticed a LOT of toxic elitist behavior on this site & nothing is done about it. No moderation or admins on this site? That sucks..im new..like days old and cant see myself staying long with this type of shameful behavior.....
That's because most of these players have nothing else to offer in life other than their skill in a low-intelligence board game.

this thread was clearly created by a bullet player. people who take time and effort to tihnk during a slow game know the truth. bullet is based off simple rules: give your opponent things to think about so he gets into time trouble and either flags or blunders. not much of an intelligence game indeed

tho he is a 1700 in rapid. perhaps hes just such a brilliant genius that it seems to him that it doesnt take much intelligence to play well

As far as I know no one has managed to find a correlation between intelligence and chess skills. There is, however, enough evidence which shows that being good at chess is correlated with a higher probability to develop mental illness. Take Steinitz, Nakamura, Morphy or Fischer, for example. All of them became obsessed and unable to function in society.

If there were any intelligent chess players, I would say bullet players are BY FAR the most intelligent. In longer time controls you get to spend an absurd amount of time justifying a single move. You already know where your pieces are and where the opponent's pieces are. Just look at the board and you'll do fine. Games like poker, League of Legends, and Mario Kart take way more skill since you need to rely on game sense and logic to know where the opposing party is. In chess just look at the board. In bullet the pieces are moving so fast you need to rely on your own intuition and thus your natural intelligence.

You- go and try to memorize Silman's, Endgame Manual. Now. Memorize every move.
Can you?
No. Why? Because human brains don't work like that. Yes, every one in ten thousand do, but you and me? No.

oh your saying that the only tru type of intelligence is natural intelligence, learning how to apply it is irrelevant. interesting

You're*.
Clearly you haven't applied it.

We literally have a whole forum about chess openings. Meanwhile some people think we are figuring everything out as we go? The best games are prepared at home and end in theory. The romantic era ended more than a hundred years ago!
100? A bit of an exaggeration don't you think? Computers strong enough to be on par with GM's did not arrive on the scene until the 1990's. So maybe 25 years tops.

Of course it isnt, why do you think there are 3 year olds that can beat gms in chess? https://youtu.be/RNm72VY6yfU

Opening preparation kills chess completely. 70% moves will be straight from memorization. Take Iodine and you will good at memorization like a h* . The rest is techniques which comes with practice. That's the shortcut to reach 2000 blitz rating at chess.com

So that chess can be used to taught students like all the puzzle tactics. By the help of it they can reach 2000 blitz here. If it was all about memorization till the top then the smartest kid in the world would be Super GM

Speaking of baiting, is that what you are doing in this thread, just trolling? According to you a low IQ player would perform equal to opponant of higher intelligence if they have the same game knowledge. It's simply idiotic, aptitude tests such as these always favor the higher IQ.

Memorization gets you a lot higher than 2000 blitz. That's why you are only 1200 blitz, you are going about it the wrong way. Less trying to think, more playing what is known. A wise man once said the battle is won before the war.
I don't have bad experienced with 2000 rating. I am just making a superficial ceiling since I have to make a point. Just like you made a decision that i am bad at chess because i am bad at blitz.
