After some practising I managed to pass the 1800-barrier. And after that it was much easier to progress from around 1800 to 1850 than from 1750 to 1800.. Any idea why that might be?

Everyone knows that 1800's are pushovers.

You've been a member for less than two weeks.  When I looked at your history, I wondered how you managed to lose to a sub-1400 in your first week.

Want to explain how the guy who loses this game can be rated 1883 less than two weeks later?  I want a copy of whatever book you read.

Strange to believe that 1800 players can't lose to 1300s.

how did you find that game that is embarrising

Yes, of course, anyone can blunder but if you look at that game, black was never in that game. That is what I didn't expect to see.

//And the player who beat him has been around 1400 for months in over 1000 games, so it wasn't a sandbagger.

to be honest do i play like the strength i play against, ofcourse there is limits on both ends but i hate to play lower rated players

themortar

i might focus more though if i meet better opponents

Anyone can see your games.  Basic members can only go back a month but since you've only been here for two weeks, anyone can see all of your games.

Well, I've lost to 1200's as well ...

A bad mood, lack of sleep, alcohol, distraction ... all good reasons that might lower someone's playing strength.

At any rate, I would be cautious before indicating that something is fishy... (if I have understood your initial post correctly.)

The whole reason I looked at his record was his claim to have practiced a bit and to have improved even more easily than he had expected. (Some people might have thought that his question was taunting the players in your class.)

When I came upon that game, it stuck out like a sore thumb. I expected to see some obvious blunder. That would have made some sense.  The only other possibility I could check was to see if he had been the victim of some underrated prodigy or perhaps a sandbagger. Alas, that doesn't seem likely either.

Without such a blunder, at least one visible to my own poor comprehension, I was at a loss to explain it. That's why I asked. His explanation of playing up or down to the competition does makes some sense.

I suspect it is an individual thing that you won't know without analysing your games.  You either learned something or a number of things that was worth 100 elo points or you stopped doing something that was costing you 100 elo points.  Or you are just as strong and got faster.
