Chess master Robert Snyder

There were rumors back in the early 80s when I was a kid Robert Snyder was molesting kids. I had friends taking lessons from him. I stayed away. He was creepy. I did buy a pamphlet of his on his opening novelty called The Snyder Sicilian. Anyone who hurts kids deserves the worst punishment

Does he still make royalties on his book? I use to take lessons from him. Was looking him up thinking I wanted to send him an email. Wow

He’s a monster. It is way beyond my ability to accurately describe. I don’t know what his status is now. But he should never be allowed near any child ever again.

I knew this man...I was a kid and one of his students in the 90s...I slept in the same hotel as him and even slept in his own house...I had no idea this fool was a pedo...I remember he had ALOT of kids around him and made ALOT of money... this was back when the internet was starting to explode 

I think he’s serving a life sentence now...I can’t believe as a kid I slept in the same hotel room as him and even slept in his house in Orange County... he locked me in the car one time in New Jersey late at night...it was real cold...now that I think of it I wonder what his intentions were...I was a perfect target for this dude. 

Damn, I remember his Simple Chess articles in the pages of Chess Life a long time ago, which were quite instructive. 

What a disappointment.

I was Snyder's first marketing pawn he used to grow his chess for juniors empire in the mid 1980s. He mostly had around lots of very young boys, but offered me free lessons if I joined his chess for juniors group. He recruited me after I started winning jr high school tournaments around Southern California, like he had done in the 1970s. Joined his CFJ group a few months before I won my first US national junior title where I remember him forcing me to stick on his nasty chess for juniors jackets with logo all over the place before photos were taken. by the time I won my second US junior championship two years later, having been paraded around doing things like simultaneous exhibitions at schools which he organised to recruit more students, his chess for junior empire was filling up his living room on a daily basis (his living room was used as the waiting room before students would go into this dodgy back room in his house where he had a chess table for everyone to sit around...). This was already in the later half of the 1980s when I left his group. After me, he then had a string of other junior champions so by the 1990s and early 2000s, must of been quite an operation. Creepy guy. never followed the formula he taught kids to play as I had my own chess playing personality by the time I joined his group. But I do remember walking out of lessons which I always thought were boring, and noticed walking past a dozen or more 9 year olds waiting in his lounge for their lessons, all eager to wear his nasty light blue chess for junior clothing, and thinking this was creepy, as was his laugh and manner around kids. left by the time I was 15 and in high school. Was told of the gossip about him being a peodo but never saw it myself so always gave the benefit of the doubt. I was the second oldest member of his group at that time, and the one he paraded around but who never listened to his chess formula (esp his , pattern all his kids played as white back in those days), so I didn't directly experience the darker side nor did my friend who was a year older. that attention would have been the much younger kids and he was spoilt for choice there. feel bad to have been used to help the guy grow that machine of his. before strangers bearing free gifts!
