I would say that it counts as cheating if it majorly improves your play. If every substance that even slightly improves ones play were to be banned, it would be a bit problematic as even something like coffee might improve how one plays chess. I'm not too sure about chess.com's policy about this so don't take what I said at face value.
Chess on drugs discourse
No it can't be classed as cheating cause there is no way to test & prove. I only play stoned out my head though mostly

Good point. Thanks for the input.

Thanks! Yeah..haha. I do that sometimes too. The problem with playing while stoned out is that most of the moves are well calculated or creative, but some times my mind wanders so clumsily that I lose track of the placement of pieces and then make one or two huge blunders which makes me end up losing lmao.

Yeah same thing happens to me. In a way being stoned helps but there is a down side of being a little bit forgetful.. Depends on what strain I'm toking on though really. Anyways all the best mate. Good luck!
I would say that after 2 years and 4000+ games? Your drug choice isnt working.
It’s worse. I have been here since 2014 and played over 20 thousand games.
If one snorted an Adderall I would most certainly expect an increase in rating especially in something like bullet. But considering chess.com is online I doubt their algo catches drug use.
There is a book about the dutch player Manuel Bosboom by NIC, interesting reading.
Here is one of his games:

I use Adderall when playing chess (prescribed) and I know lots of other people who do the same. Shouldn't be an issue unless you are playing a high ranked FIDE match.
Unless it's a physical sport/competition where physical changes to the body can result in significant gains, drugs should not be banned.
Drugs in most cases do not result in better play, nor for a significant margin. If anything most drugs make you play worse and should give bonus points for winning!
If your prescribed it shouldn't matter I even think it has a different effect I had friends who were prescribed it and said it made them feel like a zombie while college students bought them off him to study entire coarse loads in less than an hour. From my own experience time seemed to slow down my focus dramatically improved I remember playing a racing game and blowing away my personal bests with the kind of precision I never had before or after without it.I had friends who used it for wow pvp arena and their rating went from 1700 to 2100 using it.
Ever since I had surgery on one of my orbital bones I've been prescribed the most absurd dose of oxycodines. Most games I am on the moon, and I think that gives me an edge.
Playing sober, on bullet I am totally useless, yet with the drugs, I win game after game. It's incredible.
With that said, I personally do believe it is unfair to partake in such things before a match. Perhaps Chess.com could have a sort of online examination before every game to ensure that both players are playing without the aid of drugs, computers, or other humans.
I played chess while going through chemotherapy - now that was bizarre! When I was on chemo, I would sometimes have experiential hallucinations - for example, I would go into my backyard and think that it was really a football field. Visually, I could see that it wasn't but my mind kept saying, yes, you ARE on a football field.
But back to the main subject - if one has A.D.D., then taking Ritalin or Adderall should definitely be allowable during chess games - it's no different than a diabetic taking insulin to treat his or her diabetes.
Can you play chess online while using drugs? Does it qualify as cheating? I used a microdosage of LSA before playing this game.
