I was thinking about buying OE. In the test mode, does it take you through the theory one move at a time, or does it test you on positions?
Chess Opening Encyclopedia 2014, is it enough in general

I have bought lot of opening books. And probably wasted both money and time trying to understand them.
But now after many years I have found a very good book: Opening for Amateurs, by Pete Tamburro. It's aimed at 1100-1900 players (or those who want to be there). Highly recommended!
You have also the classic Ideas behind the chess openings by Reuben Fine. It's old book but still valid. But like Tamburro's book better.
You also need an encyclopedia, and I recommend FCO, Fundamental Chess Openings by Paul van der Sterren.
Above 2-3 books is all you need when you are below 1800.
I will shrink some text cause this will be a long topic. Sorry if this is too long haha
Apologies to the readers if my grammar is awful and if some of my words seem childish.
Anyways,
I would like to say something before anyone says that at my patzer level that i shouldn't focus on openings too much. Read the text below only if you wish
I am also trying to train in tactics, positional play and endgames, okay. I am planning to finish My System and fully read Dvorestky's Endgame Manual when summer vacation comes which is about 7-8months from now cause i also want to perform high academically instead of just passing unlike many chess prodigies that dropped out of school or went straight to chess professional after graduating from high school. ( Magnus Carlsen and Bobby Fischer come to mind although there are several examples that i did not mention ) Anyway thats not the topic of this post.
I felt like asking about openings cause i am not 100% sure yet what kind of material, tools, training etc i need to improve my opening. Sure, you cannot be 100% sure in those kinds of things in any other concept
(tactics,positional play, endgames.etc)
but my opening training is the farthest thing i am sure/ confident of in my training materials and training regime. Basically i am asking the best way to train in the opening and the best programs / materials to train with.
(Of course the best way to train in any sport is different for everyone and that also applies in the best thing to train with so you guys should just give me a answer thats as close as you can get to the best).
I am using a program or database called Chess Opening Encyclopedia 2014 for my training.
(Its the only program i am using so far but i won't be exclusively using that program if people here recommend something else.)
Its pretty good but i think it has its own cons. ( Nothing's perfect but its quality is pretty good considering that it has thousands of theory databases)
I want to fix this cons by using another program or googling around the net if i must.(Please do not suggest opening books. Its not that i hate to read those kind of books but generally the main way people train these days is by computer and not books. Sure i can understand if you want to read books like My System in this day and age but opening books have too many cons compared to studying openings by computer. I probably don't need to explain that further in detail)
1. The COE 2014 (Chess Opening Encyclopedia 2014) only explains how to play the game after a certain opening move order.
Most of it is like how to play KID after 11.blabla variation or how to play sicilian after 9.blabla variation and it does not explain the moves before
Sure some moves are explanatory because it offers the best winning chances in the opening or in a certain variation of the said opening but its pretty hard if its like the examples i gave earlier.
I won't easily understand the moves before move 9 or move 11 without searching hard for it in google or something since the COE does not explain it.
That problem is null if you are a already a good player and know that variation in the 1st place before you read the COE but i ain't like that yet so i need all the things i can get to learn those things easier.
2.COE does not explain how to deal with some inferior looking sidelines
Well, so far i only finished learning all the Ponziani lines in COE ( its one of the shortest theory databases since it does not have several databases with several subvariations about it.) I feel satisfied with what i learned in the Ponziani there since the database is about where the Ponziani exactly starts.
I planned to study the Nimzowitsch defense next and i saw two databases for it, but both of them are about the defense after a move order starting with move 3.
I was kinda suprised that the databases didn't have the variation 1.e4 Nc6 2.d4 d5 3.e5 (It had 3.exd5 and 3.Nc3 as expected though).
I thought they didn't include it cause it would be like including 1.e4 d5 2.e5 which is a scandinavian turned into a inferior french for white so there isn't need to analyze it further.
I can conclude from those ideas that the reasons why they don't include certain lines is because it transposed to another opening ( Which probably means the line is there, just not where you are expecting it to be) and/ or the line is inferior.
I am pretty sure the move 3.e5 in 1.e4 Nc3 2.d4 d5 3.e5 does not change or transpose the opening cause you can't play the important french move c5 without moving the Nc6 twice early which wastes tempo on the Nimzowitsch defense and leads to a inferior French.
I don't think 1.e4 Nc3 2.d4 d5 3.e5 is really that inferior compared to 1.e4 d5 e5 or to a drastic degree 1.h4 h5 2.Rh3 (Just random moves that don't lead to anything concrete against a competent player)
I can understand if they can't include all Sicilian or KID lines that are playable and decent but aren't as deadly compared to mainlines but not including 3.e5 in the Nimzowitsch defense is pretty odd since thats what most patzers would play oftenly in my opinion. I just don't see how 3.e5 is inferior enough to 3.Nc3 or 3.exd5 that they won't add a theory database to it. There are probably better examples of this but this is the one i found so far.
Again , if you are already a good player or around master you don't need anything to teach you about lines like those to you but i need it eventually.
Any suggestions on how to study opening lines that the COE does not give emphasis on?
What other program, app or tool can help me in Openings?
(No need to suggest CB and any chess engine cause i already have those)
Any other advice related to the topic?
Wow i probably took 2 hours to write this, Hope someone actually reads everything i said haha
