Chess players who are also musicians

Are there any serious musicians here who also love chess a lot?

This is slight offtopic, but both Mark Taimanov and Smyslov are(was) musicians aswell as top level chess players.

I am a professional musician who loves chess. While I teach chess for a living now, I made my living playing music for 25 years and have a number of CDs as well as session work.

I play the piano and I sing in a couple of choirs and a quartet. I'm not much of a chess enthusiast, though - I only play to pass the time.

I have an IM friend, though, whose father is a composer and teaches at the Sibelius Academy here in Helsinki; he also plays chess with a FIDE rating of around 2000.

wow making living teaching chess? that's cool, I'm trying to make a living making music. 

I play guitar and have had a passion for music my whole life. Played Euphonium in the 1st Div. Marine Corps band for a living for 4 years.

I can put all the pieces in their tub and shake it around like Maracas...does that count?  Seriously though I think Bach was into chess.

I am a musician, and a chess aficionado. I find much of the same beauty in a well played chessgame as well written poetry or music. Chess, for me, often appeals to the same senses that are stimulated by art.

Obviously not. 

Yeah, I still make money playing music and do soundtrack stuff, but teaching chess to kids is really my favorite occupation. Its great so see so many other musicians here. It makes perfect sense since music and chess share so much in common!

I play several Western Classical instruments, in addition to the Guitar, Double-Bass, Drums and a few other Western Pop instruments, as well as 10 Indian Classical instruments (and 2 more Indian Classical accompaniment instruments), in addition to Western Classical singing, Western Pop singing, Indian Pop singing and Indian Classical singing (all vastly different).

And, obviously, I like Chess.
