chess points

ess.com uses the "Glicko" rating system to calculate a players rating after each game played. Im not familiar with the exact formula. It goes like this. Its the relationship between the two players' rating. If you defeat a player whose rating is higher than yours you gain more points than if you beat a player closer to your rating. I suggest you Google Glicko chess rating system for a more complete explanation. BTW, the length of o game does not influence the points awarded, or lost. Good Luck...Aglitatta

The exact answer is somewhat complicated and it (see the Glicko System for chess.com) is here:

The simplest answer is that you are given an average rating to start and if you:
win against:
a player rated much higher than you, your rating goes up a lot.
a player rated about the same as you, your rating goes up a significant amount.
a player rated much lower than you, your rating goes up very little.
lose against:
a player rated much lower than you, your rating goes down a lot.
a player rated about the same as you, your rating goes down a significant amount.
a player rated much higher than you, your rating goes down very little.
draw against:
a player rated much higher than you, your rating goes up a significant amount.
a player rated slightly higher than you, your rating goes up very little.
a player rated the same as you, your rating doesn't change.
a player rated slightly lower than you, your rating goes down a little.
a player rated much lower than you, your rating goes down a significant amount.
