over here we have the black king in line with the white bishop. The white bishop is bearing down on the king. Because it's white to move white will want to exploit the position the black king is in. The least valuable piece that white can attack with is the knight. If it attacks with the rook then white will immediately be a major piece down. It will then have to take the bishop with the rook at g1 and now white is two rooks down and black has both rooks. In this case with further pieces exchanged white will just a knight while black will have a knight and a rook. So start the exchange with the least valuable piece. Take the black bishop with the white rook and once the black rook is in g6 double attack with the bishop pinning the rook at g6. If black plays kn to f4 then give a check with the bishop taking the rook on g6. This is a forced move. If queen the bishop then white plays queen to h4 for a double attack.
Better of course will be to take the black rook at g6 with the white rook. This is both an attack on the queen and a dis-check on the black king. If black takes white queen with the knight then rook takes queen naturally a dis-check, forced move and white takes queen and rook while maintaining a rook and a clergyman. Thus black will take with his queen the rook on g6. In one variation of the game if black takes the white bishop that has just captured the queen with his knight I don't see any advantage black has with just a queen against a rook and knight.
What was that again?
You see the battery of your rooks on g1 and g3 which together with your knight are attacking g6. Unfortunately, you have only 3 attackers and there are 4 defenders.
If you could open up the g file. You would win the rook on g8.
Can you do that?
Bishop takes on f5. Queen takes back. Your queen takes on f5. His pawn takes back. The file is open.
You win his rook.
What did it cost you? Your bishop and queen got you a pawn and a queen ... and a rook.
