when I was playing my first game I had a rating of 12000 then it was going higher when there when I got better so I thought it would be my points against all the games I've played against computers people and friends so I decided it would be a good thing to posted

1200-- it generally starts at 1200 (here) but will quickly adjust as you play to get to the appropriate level.
But it could start at 12000. The starting point doesn't really matter. The actual rating number doesn't mean anything in itself. It only means something relative to the ratings of others at the same site.
It is a good thing. It will help you find games where you have equal chances with your opponents.
You keep playing all your games against players much better than you. Why not let the system match you up a few times?
