Chess rating system

"I was taught the queen's value was about 9 points. Has this changed?"
The value of pieces is an average which might depend on the position. Do you really think that 10% is a terrible difference ?

That is strange, I was advised that several messages have been posted since I sent mine above (#2272), but when I come here my message is still the last one I can see :-o

The Grandmasters of the old dident need to be so strong. And thay had limited tecnolagy. Databases and computers.
Today thay get stronger.
But todays GM are limited in time because thay spes7ualize in beating humans.
There for todays GM are limmited when facing the top chess computers rated 3300.
I a spesualist can beat draw with them. It takes allot of practice and learning strenghts and weaknesses and allot of opening preperation. And few can handle out of book new ground positions and hold up against top computers. It takes a genius. there have been few. I can be considerd one. My best move rate is worlds class.
But the dream of reaching such hights of beeting 3300 is too hard beyond human potensiol it apears. Its an hardfight.
Anyone trying to play better against strong computer.
Aim for easy to play from positions.
And if u spot a few winning chances thats.
If a user you've just won over closes his account do you lose the points/rating? Just had a guy close his account after I won and I don't think my rating was adjusted. (or it was lower than I thought, ahah)

Once the game completes, the rating changes. Subsequent closure of an account won't impact that.
However, for Daily/correspondence, if an account is closed and that closure results in a lot of timed out games, there is a mechanism in place to stop that player's rating from dropping after so many losses in that manner. I don't know if that also prevents the winning player's rating from increasing though.

My rating fluctuates from 900 to 1100.....I am sure people think I am sandbagging at times......sometimes ratings are about who you challenge that day
Just won my first game of Daily Chess and my rating has gone up 100 points. By the end of February I could be in Magnus Carlsson territory!

Is there a difference between USCF ratings and ELO ratings? If so, approximately how do they equate? For instance, if I had an ELO rating of 1300 where would I likely be rated by the USCF, assuming my performence in games was equal?
Just how accurate are the ratings on here?
I think that in the medium run they tend to be accurate. A good number of games should compensate for all the excentric matches. If you add the Glicko RD score to your present rating you will have a good perception of your possibilities and deviations. And in the long run you will hopefully evolve so it's always just momentary reference :)

Did the uscf switch to the same rating formula used on here?
.
No. They do use a system developed by the creator of Glicko but it doesn't use RD values: http://glicko.net/ratings/rating.system.pdf
No
