Can anyone explain Chess 960?  I'm afraid to try a game until I know what to expect!

LordTC

Chess 960 is pretty similar to Fischer Random I think the castling rules are slightly different.

Basically you get a symmetric position with random piece arrangements at the start except that there is a rook on either side of the king, and you can castle by "moving your king 2 squares" to one side which will put the king on the c or g file and put the rook on the d or f files (I think?)

Pretty much the point of Fischer random (or Wild 960 or whatever you want to call it) is to make chess more playable for the less experienced by removing opening theory and forcing players to think for themselves about the position. It prevents a lot of situations where people trot out heavily studied openings and catch you in traps that they only know by rote (i.e. a 1300ish player springs a trap that typically one would be about 1600+ if one could find it on their own, but they've prestudied it).  Basically it tries to eliminate the problem for low-level players where playing an opening that one side has studied and the other hasn't results in completely unfun games.

Haha people can often be "overrated" or "underrated", a rating isn't always the most accurate measure of a player's playing strength, in my opinion, because it majorly takes into account the no. of games you play! If Kasparov only played one game a year when he was 2750, for e.g., he'll probably take forever to reach 28++. If you play more, your rating can increase OR decrese faster. So don't take rating seriously! What's most important is to enjoy the game. Take rating as an incentive but not everything =)

Ratings are needed for tournaments and inviting players and setting up matches, etc. but you should just play your best and not worry about it. The system is about as good as it is going to get, the math people have tweaked the original Elo system until now you just about have to have a computer to calculate your rating! I think it is a good indicator, over the long haul of a player's strength, but doesn't take into account human factors, like how someone is feeling that day! Anyway, just my two cents...

Have you have ever heard the term "runescape accounts"? How about, "runescape gold"? They have many names, but they are all the same. Although I know exactly what a macro is in Runescape, I thought I would do some research and see what a macro was outside of runescape gold for sale.
Macroing in runescape accounts for sale Basically, when you use a runescape gold, you are using a program that will play the game for you. There are many different types of these, such as; Mining Bots, Woodcutting Bots, Attacking Bots, but they all do the same thing, get levels. This is against the rules of runescape quests. Jagex bans thousands of accounts a month due to these cheats. I cannot tell people enough, cheating is NOT the answer. If people would just do the work themselves, then there would be no problem.
Macroing outside of runescape power leveling:As I promised, I researched and this is what I found; "A macro is a way to automate a task that you perform repeatedly or on a regular basis. It is a series of runescape money making commands and actions that can be stored and run whenever you need to perform the task. You can record or build a runescape gold, and then play the macro to automatically repeat the series of commands or actions."

i want to play white....how can i do that?

my advice to any new players, take a blind bit of notice about your rating, it is not important, take more time learning the openings!!! i hope this is helpfull!!!

panchess

In my case it was the same. I also got 1200th of course, is great. So go on and collect more ;-)

Some people think they can beat the system by "sandbagging" (playing worse than you are so your rating is lower and you look really good when playing people of equal rating). The way professionals like kasparov get such a good rating, is by REVERSE SANDBAGGING (playing better than you actually are).

TheGrobe

Reverse sandbagging?  Really?  I'd be interested to know how this is done....

kingrider

well dats actually an initial rating......U ll get very high ratings for the games u win initially so my advice is not to lose in those early games :)

Marcelo77

I like to have ratings here, it helps me choose a player who is more or less t my same level. I never play people 1500 or higher, they beat me easily. But I do not play someone who is less than 800 either as I win quickly. I like people between 900 and 1100 (I am usually around 1070).

rating's obviously matter, if you're a serious chess player, but the most important thing is just to enjoy the game, and have fun!

turtle wrote: i am starting to understand the rating system, but how do you determine points during a game? are certain peices worth different points?

turtle, the general points system followed is as follows:

pawn - 1pt.

knight/bishop - 3pts.

rook - 5pts.

queen - 10pts.

of course points are not everything... the position of your piece also matters.. for example you might not mind losing a bishop or rook to save a pawn on the 7th row.. and points dont have any bearing on the game result.. it is just a basic framework to help beginners understand the value of different pieces

isn't the queen 9 points?

Godark99

Every game count. Every rating count. The higher the rating, the nearer the road to the champion guild. Some fake rating count too but that did not affect the rating system. The top will always be the top and your rating will always be the same unless you improved.
