Chess rating system

I'm 1669 and that is not possible since I'm 1550 last week.

What's happrning?

SmyslovFan

Weird. My live standard rating dropped down to 1667 from a high of 1889 or some such. I haven't played in several months. Maybe they're doing something with the RD?

It seems like there is no pattern in the increases, so all points to a server bug (mistake)

1295 to 1445 without playing any games. I'm just a natural chess genius I guess. Laughing

Why then did I go down from 1200 (to 1361) when I beat someone who has a rating above 1200 (1089)?? Admittedly don't have time to read the article... but hoping someone knows how this works anyway!

1361 is higher than 1200

Can someone please explain why ratings weren't given a flat tax?

macer75

Or a progressive tax?

RatBoyFTW

can you get a title from playing live on chess.com?

lolurspammed

LOL no.. Can you imagine the cheating if that was possible.

FIDE is now looking into rating online live games and USCF already does this. Of course, I don't think either organization uses this site for their rated games. There are too many problems with move inputs here.

Hello everyone, how can one get a title from playing online in chess.com or even facebook? :P thanks in advance for reply

I have the problem: my realy rating in standart is 1698, but by mistake now it is 1998. How to fix it?

sztygar

I do not play ratings games anymore, no time, but I play chess from time to time. Yesterday I had interesting position.

Find strongest move for white, or better the whole combination.

Good luck! :)

Compare chess classes to shotokan karate belt ranks...

mounirzeraouti

no way

Jion_Wansu

By classes I mean chess ratings/titles to karate belts/ranks

I would agree with Josh on that. Most Martial Arts schools award a black belt after 3-5 years of study (this always depends on often the person trains etc.) However, I train Brazillian Jiu Jitsu and a black belt typically takes 10-13 years of consistent study and only 1 person out of 10,000 people who ever train Jiu Jitsu will ever be a black belt. This is because most people want instant progress and overnight results, but when they find out how hard it is and that after 2 years of training they hardly know anything at all they quit, although most quit much sooner. I would equate a BJJ black belt maybe with a GM but I'm a beginner at chess so I don't know, it would make sense however.
