Chess Rating

No matter what you do in life, part of the fun is knowing you are improving at whatever hobby or recreation you choose. I am just getting back into chess after a long hiatus. I had e very bad accident and can not work anymore. So I spend my days playing classical guitar and chess.  So here's my question.  I have played about 200 to 300 games in the  last month. I like playing Blitz chess better than the 30 minute game. At first I was scared to death to play a 10 minute game and now I am playing 5 minute games.  My rating went from 622 to 879 in blitz playing.  What does 879 represent as far as my skill level?  Am I a beginner, and advanced beginner, and weak intermediate, intermediate, advance intermediate, or I am ready to take on Bobby Fisher ( just kidding).  Knowing I am getting my rating higher is a good thing but I have no idea what this means as far as my skill level.  Can someone chime in and let me know what my level is considered by my 897 blitz rating.  Very soon I will try playing a 3 minute game but that is a bit imtimidating for me at the moment.  Thanks everyone for taking the time to answer my questions.  God Bless.  BobbyD NYC

879 is a beginner. I'm around 1400, and I wouldn't classify myself anywhere above intermediate.

At your level, you're most likely hanging pieces all over the place and falling for simple tactics. If you want to improve, stop playing blitz and play standard length games (at least 15-30 minutes).

Thanks for everyone's replys.  I am done with 3 minute blitz games, even 5 minute games are a tad too quick to be able to put proper thought into all the moves available to improve tactics and stratagies.  I am going to focus on 10 minute games and 30 minute games. See you all again when I get my blitz rating up to 1500.  I think my regular rating for 30 minute games is 1200.   I jusy don't understand why I have such a large  discrepency between my two ratings.

Anything below 1000 is a low beginner rating.  You can graduate to intermediate at 1300 or so.  1700 I would call advanced, and 2000 or higher is expert/master, of course.

Buddy, hate to tell you this, but 30 minute games are too quick to put proper thought into the moves.

Now that is some heavy stuff.  I like it.   Achja, I always love your words of wisdom.  Thanks everyone.
