When I'm playing chess I usually stick to healthy stuff like carrot sticks but otherwise pizza and chess is great.

Or cookies:

Wouldn't it be enjoyable to play with these and actually eat them with each capture?

Just hope they don't promote :D

I'm looking for snack recommendations for the US Amateur Team East coming up this weekend.   I'm kinda looking forward to putting together my own trail mix.  Anyone have some ideas about what to put in?

I hope your opponents won't consider it rude to eat while playing.

Otherwise, I like to eat Jelly!

Was it Fischer who ate smelly sardines during a game?  I've been trying to find mention of it online without success so far, but did find mention of Levenfish having distractingly smelly sardine sandwiches with him at tournaments.  Smelly snacks...they could help you, or they could annoy you more than your opponent!

I noticed that Omega-3 fatty acids--found in sardines and salmon--are supposed to be good for the brain, but you would have to eat them ~12 hours before the game.

I make my own humus; Garbonzo beans, Garlic, Tahini, Olive Oil and Lemon, little salt.  I put in enough garlic that OTB I'm sure my opponent would have trouble not noticing the pungeant aroma!

Your opponents do have the right to make you eat away from the table, which means you'd end up spending time off of your clock to eat your snacks.

I myself don't tolerate opponents that eat anything that makes noise (i.e. Chips), has a strong odor (i.e. Limburger Cheese, Canned Tuna), or any food at all what-so-ever if my opponent is incapable of chewing with their mouth closed.

Also, the larger the tournament, the more it's considered "bad form" to bring food to the table.  You should limit yourself to a non-alcoholic drink (i.e. Water, Coffee, Soda, etc).

In other words, sugar.

I don't eat when playing chess. If I did, it'd probably be either nuts or goji berries.

otb I used to eat a Mars Bar or a lot of soft Liquorice allsorts, wheels and more.( I guess a lot of Confectionery) . In some whole day tournaments I go to the fast food and get some hot dogs or went to MCDonnalds to get a burger. most tournaments places only have boring sandwiches

online I selten eat anything. I eat snacks when I watch a movie.

I would like a bacon sandwich. All sorts of gurgling and growling noises coming from my stomach.
