Hello all.

I seriously want to learn chess at least to the point when i can compete in online tourneys.I have decided to start first with a study of tactics. However, there is a question I want to ask:

Should I look for solving many problems in a day, or should i solve a few, but repeatedly, (irrespective of whether i got them right or not) so that the pattern is engrained in my mind??

Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you.

I think that there are two approaches to solving tactical problems:

1) Solve easy tactics (mate in one/two/three, double attacks etc), in order to absorb the patterns. This should be done at high speed.

2) Solve more difficult tactics in order to improve your visualisation skills (calculating every variation without moving the pieces) This should be done at a much lower speed.

smart. sounds smart. I think of the first kind only; what you point out of needing to also do slow and train to visualize and compare different variations,,,makes a lot of sense. thanks.
