I used to use it quite a bit a little over a year ago and have still used it some recently. I certainly improved tactically while using it. It's easy to use it in a kind of mindless way and not make much progress. To see more of my thoughts on it, see this post on my blog:

When I was using it a lot I was got up to the 1660s there and as high as 1672, these days when I go occasionally I get about 1600-1620.  I started out around 1500, but made a very concious effort about what king of tactics I was missing. You can read all about that on my blog if you find it interesting.

just FYI - we are almost done with a really well done tactics trainer that is very similar to the Tactics Server :) i'm very excited about it. look for it in about 3-4 weeks.

That would be great. Chess Tactics Server froze development some time ago. I think everybody who uses it realizes there potential improvements. It's useful in its current state, but it's always better when a good team makes a better product. From what I've seen of chess.com, I'm looking forward to all new features. :-)

Just posted this because I was wondering about people's opinion on the Chess Tactics Server.  Do you guys find it useful and are you guys tactically improving in chess because if it?  Posting your ratings would also be nice thanks.  Mine fluctuates from 1330-1350.

 It's wicked slow :(

Mine fluctuates from 1330-1350.

But what is your accuracy? It matters... the same player can be 1400 @ 95% accuracy = 1500 = 87% accuracy = 1600 % 80% accuracy. In fact, I am right now looking at the profiles of someone for which this is true.

Increases and decreases in my CTS rating strongly corresponds with my ability to spot blunders and common tactical patterns in real games. And if you focus on the problems you get wrong you can certainly improve, although I feel the smaller pools of tactics such as one finds in Polgar's brich, PCT, CTB are more conductive to learning patterns because one key to memorization is spaced repetition. Therefore I now use CTS more as a baseline rather than as a learning tool. Also, CTS doesn't help your ability to calculcate deeply too much... for that you need to play slow games, study master games, or study difficult problems such as those found in the higher levels of CT-ART.

Yes, I cannot wait for the tactics trainer to come on this site. Once it is here I plan to switch from CTS to the one here.  Smile
