See, pdela? A foreigner had to come to teach you.

I'm hardly a foreigner. I told you already, I might have some Spanish genes.

That could be my ancestors, they were certainly capable of that.

Thank you W-Luke.  Those are great  additions to the English-Spanish glossary.

What is the Spanish translation for common tactics, such as pin, fork, skewer? How about isolated pawn? Peon aislado?

Pulpofeira

Peón aislado, yes. Pin=clavada, fork=horquilla o ataque doble, skewer=enfilada (or pincho moruno grin.png )

pin=clavada (pinned piece=pieza clavada); fork=doble o ataque doble (the literal tanslation is "tenedor" used to name the piece of cutlery); I´m not sure about the translation of "skewer". "Peón aislado" is right for isolated pawn.

pdela, no he encontrado a nadie que sepa como se dice backrank mate, porque "mate trasero" no suena demasiado bien

Backrank mate in Spanish is mate en rango de vuelta or mate en retroceso.

Nicator65

"Backrank mate" is "mate en la octava" (checkmate on the eight rank).

¿Qué sucede si el mate es en la primera?

Nicator65

The term comes from the times when the Descriptive Notation was more popular, so it was (almost) always Rook–8–something checkmate (Torre–8–algo mate).
