Sorry, I don't know of any GUIs that are comparably as bad as Chess Titans. 
Which GUIs have you tried?
What do you want to do with the GUI? Play games, analyze, database work, engine tournaments?
As far as the throwing up, maybe you have acid reflux. Have you checked with your doctor? 
What does chess titans do? Maybe the Dasher interface you get to keep after giving the big site a free try would suffice (and the Stockfish engine is pretty good).
Wikipedia describes it. You could use this site for player to player games, and the above interface for analysis and various strength engine opponents. You've been on this site for several minutes (a bit too soon for us to get a sense of your chess playing strength).

For the love of goodness, all the online chess downloads absolutlely suck! I throw up in my mouth just a little bit everytime I look at their UI. Are there any comparable downloads to Chess Titans for Windows 8? Free or paid, doesn't matter at this point.
