I'm hearing from a guy who makes money out of Twitch is insane.

I don't make money on twitch. What are you even talking about? I do stream sometimes for fun when I'm playing 10 min games here on chess.com.

Chess is meant to be a fun game

For you it's maybe a fun game but for somebody else it's an art.

but then people took it seriously which makes people invest more money and time when they will not get anything in the future.

Why you're so much concerned about money, money, money and money? This is all you can think about?

Have you ever used complex math before in real life?

You live because of complex math. Nuclear energy exists because of complex math, satellite communication exist because of complex math and many-many other technologies exist because of complex math. Math is a language of God. If you don't know anything about it and don't even want to know - it's your choice. Don't make it for others. For example, I'd gladly know more about complex math. I have some knowledge but I'm not good enough.

--------------

Looks like we are on different levels in Maslow's pyramid. You want to live in the "real life" and I'm dreaming about an "unreal one". wink.png

No reason to continue.

-------

P.S. An interesting question for the audience. How "useless" chess survived for so long?

Bro is arguing on off-topic stuff and ignore my other points.

Is anyone interested in answering a question? What are chess players needed for? And how it compares to the job of doctors or lawyers?

Chess players are pretty much useless compared to doctors and lawyers
Think about it: doctors save lives, lawyers help sort out peoples problems, what do chess players do? Play a meaningless game that doesn’t do anything, except gain you a tiny amount of money and a few followers, even then only f you are at the top level. Also, most people can’t afford the proper training to become pro chess players, so professional chess players are basically people who’s parents are rich and they have enough spare time to do playing chess

This is like saying "Being drafted to the NHL/NFL/FIFA/MLB etc is harder than becoming a doctor or lawyer wah wah wah"

Titled players are the top players in their sport. Same with top Hockey players or Baseball, or Soccer or Football etc. The only difference is that those other sports bring in more money and thus the players are paid more.

Maybe you should stop worrying about getting a title and play for fun. If you become good enough to become a Grandmaster great. Most people will not. Titled players are higher than 99.9% of the people in the world. I am better than 90%+ of the people in the world, but I would get destroyed so badly by a titled player I'd think I don't know anything about chess.

"Being drafted to the FIFA" is the most American thing I've ever heard lmao

I don't know how professional soccer players get on teams, nor do I care, the point is that they are the best players in their sport.

Not in India tho

OP would have to clarify what he means by "harder", especially when comparing the time spent. Is it equal amounts of time being spend on chess and that, is it a standard amount of time being spent on chess that an amateur typically uses.

Whole thread's a waste of time really.

If it was so easy to get a title that anyone could get one, then it would not be worth having.

there has been so much inflation in ratings and FIDE titles in the last 30 years, strong players talk about someone being a „real master” or a „super grandmaster” to distinguish them from the plain old masters and grandmasters.

As someone who is a NM and who has a Ph.D. from a high-ranking graduate program, I can say that it is much easier to get the chess title.

The American Contract Bridge League awards master-points for good performances in duplicate bridge games.

As a way to encourage players to continue playing, they have titles such as Club Master, that can be earned with a few points earned in your first week of playing! Stronger players look at these titles as nothing more than participation trophies.
Sounds to me that this is what the OP is asking for.

Nah. Never thought about it.

Why having a chess title is hard to get than to getting a professional title like doctor, lawyer and others? They (FIDE) should lower the standards of getting a title in chess, so players will enjoy and encourage to continue.

People start their education very early (age 5 for example)

If you start your chess that early and don't get a title, then there's probably something (seriously) wrong with you.

Based on what? I've played against people that started when they were 5 years old that are no better than me. On the other hand some players never started playing chess seriously until they were past 20 and became great, the best example is Chigorin who only knew the moves and started playing seriously at 25. Sure it's a lot better chance of doing well if people start earlier, but it's neither necessary or sufficient to become a good player.

I will never understand why people just decide to make up things like that.
