Sorry for what? Chess is much more difficult than checkers, because it's more complex. Is checkers a solved game? Is chess a solved game? Which is more difficult to solve? Again, why worry about which game is better or "superior"? Just enjoy whatever game it is you like to play. Even if it's tic tac toe.

Chess, to put ti bluntly, is a more complicated game.It just is. There are more possible chess games than atomsin the universe, which equals ten quadrillion vigintillion and one-hundred thousand quadrillion vigintillion atoms, while checkerss has 500 billion billion. I don't hate checkers, it just is a more complicated game.

Never liked checkers.

I played enough of it (lots of brothers and sisters), and I'll never play another game of it for the rest of my life.

Btw, always hated it when a forced take would result in my opponent removing several of my pieces, and then declaring that I king his piece.  It was always a rueful moment. (gleeful for my opponent)

Haven't played checkers in over thirty years; a lifetime for many of you.

chess man. can checkers turn into different pieces at the end of the board? and there is barely any point. at least in chess there is a base you must protect and defend

I've never played checkers by the way so I'm probably misjudging.

Yes, they can. Stop posting when you have nothing to say.

There certainly is a point to checkers and one can't determine whether a game is worthwhile or not depending on whether or not piece can change into other pieces when they reach the end of the board.

By the way, Edgar Allan Poe made an interesting commentary on the difference between checkers and chess at the beginning of his classic detective story, "The Murders in the Rue Morgue." His assertion is that checkers is a far superior game than chess when it comes to analytical thinking because, among other things, since the movements of the chess pieces are so varied and "bizarre," there is a lot of room for error due to distraction, whereas in checkers, the simpler and limited choices to make can allow for a move that is based purely on analysis. Or at least this is what I remember about the piece from having read it many years ago.

They are different and I never used to believe chess players had this thing where they discussed and said such things about checkers.  I do now.  You don’t say anything about other games.  Pick on other games.  Maybe it is because some checkers use the same board.  There is 10x10 and 12x12 which use a bigger board.

It is a different game.

And I still make my point that unless you play both at a reasonable level and understand the intricacies of both games you don’t know.  You might think you know but you don’t.

The great thing is we dont have to know. Computers know it for us. Chess is more difficult than checkers, and not just by a lot. By REALLY a lot. I can see where you might think chess players feel superior based on chess being much more difficult, but I dont see why it matters. Just play the game you like. If you like checkers, even though it's a solved game and therefore not very difficult compared to chess, then play checkers. If you like chess, even though you'll never figure it out, play chess.

As Chessie pointed out, the possible moves in checkers is a very tiny fraction of those possible in chess. Which is why chess is much more difficult Look at it this way, in checkers all you have to do is know how the pieces move diagonally. That's it. Compared to chess there is very little piece co-ordination.
