Chess vs Poker

It's a great game. There are decent amounts of similarities between the two. There are a fair few number of poker pros who grew up with a chess background. I think Greg/Jennifer Shahade are the best examples of GMs who have had signifiant success with poker, Greg in particular. As to people saying Poker is all luck, I'm afraid you couldn't be more wrong.

Don't forget Jeff Sarwrer as well. It's unfortunate he stopped playing chess, he probably would have been great.

It is absurd to say poker is just luck. It is still gambling, but if you don't think there is a lot of skill involved then you don't know how to play. I enjoy chess more, but I have made MUCH more money playing poker. I do enjoy NLH against friends for small stakes. That can be fun. I think that many people who are attracted to chess are also attracted to poker. Look at Dan Harrington.

I used to play and win a lot at poker. Now that I am older I lost my abilities.

Still retain most of my chess abilities.

For me now, poker is harder. and duplicate bridge and bowling 300 games on Wii the easist.

What a shame that such a gem of a post ended up totally unnoticed.

Are we gonna see you at the Bermuda Bowl next year Ponz?

For the record, there is certainly bluffing in chess.  It isn't used nearly as often because there is complete information available to your opponent, and they can figure it out.  It absolutely still happens, though.

Yes, the bluff in chess is pretty much diversion attacks and decoys and such
