Chessbase 11

Chessbase 11 is full of bugs!
Almost every time I used it it behaives strange or hangs.
The only pc-product I have with such faults.
But when it works, it works quite good.
You can also download a free version:
http://www.chessbase.com/download/download2.asp
It is basically limited to 32000 games per database and supports CBH format and the PGN format.
But you don't need a million games db.
If you need such, there are several on the net.
Bugs in Chessbase 11? Any examples? Are you sure your not doing something wrong?
And sure he need big databases, its the best way to prepare for OTB tournement games.

A good chess database is a must for serious chess enthusiasts. But to say that ChessBase is the best solution is a reach.
ChessBase has a number of pluses, including having the best user interface of the current crop of solutions. But it also has some minuses as well. The two biggest drawbacks to CB is that it does not natively read many other database formats nor does it implement any version of CQL.
Chess Assistant, by way of comparison, has a lousy interface. But you can do searches in CA that are simply impossible in ChessBase. Given the HUGE price difference between the two, it's hard to recommend CB unilaterally as the tool someone 'must' have.

I have tried SCID and found it rather good, but as I'm used to CB, it have never liked the SCID interface.
But SCID is free and it's a good database!

I havet to change my opinion of CB11.
Now when I a have legal payed full version of CB11, I receive updates quite often (currently update 25), and I must say the CB11 is working better and better. I can't even rembember when I got a hangup or krasch last, and I'm using CB11 almost every day.
But why use Chessbase when there are other free alternatives? If money is a issue, I recommend SCID (or the free versions of CB).
For others, Chessbase is the "standard". Like most use Microsoft instead of Mac or Linux. Not because it's techical better, but beause most others use it.
I have an earlier version of Cb that I downloaded off the internet (it was free) and I think it is quite good. But I don't use it too often.
