I can't help you with that, so here is a comment to boost it!
Chessbase 16 vs Chessbase 12

it can take a while for the search booster in Chessbase to process.
Three things:
- Did you at least use the Task Manager to see if the search process is CPU bound or disk bound?
- Maybe give some actual numbers for the meaning of "a while".
- Other suggestions how to reproduce the problem without obtaining a copy 3.7Mgames database.
I don't have access to CB12, but restoring a backup of friend's computer with CB14, 15 & 16 is on my to do list for this year. I may be able to help
Edit: I forgot to ask two more obvious questions:
- HDD or SSD?
- Did you already excluded Chessbase directories (both Program and Data folders) from the live/online anti-virus protection? Just leave them for the periodic anti-malware scan.
I maintain a large reference database of master and engine games (from CCRL) which I use to explore opening novelties in Chesssbase. Sometimes I will run engine tournaments to generate an extra 250 games or so in an unusual opening, add that to my database, and then use that to explore the opening.
I have been using Chessbase 12 (and occasionally SCID) for this but as my reference database now has around 3.7 million games in it, it can take a while for the search booster in Chessbase to process. It's not a hardware problem (8 core i7 PC with 32 gig of ram) but I think latter versions of Chessbase have improved the search booster.
Does anyone have the lastest Chessbase and is it worth the upgrade for the improved search booster (and maybe any other new functionality for exploring openings). I'm not fussed about their cloud databases as I use another website that provides chess studies where you can save your opening databases in the cloud for that
