An interesting theory, but I'm guessing Chess.com puts their time/effort into more sound ways of drawing in paying members. 

Most players I've run into without profiles or pics are just people that want to play some chess and not socialize.  Not so unheard of in chess players. 

 

Have you tried talking to these players you think are bots?

Lol... I don't think bots can play that bad. I should know I'm one of the blitz only ppl rated terrible cuz who doesn't get a phone call while playing blitz....or lose your queen in a rush move and then forfiet. No bots.
