chess.com has 6,986,637 members. where is that number shown. I see the same players here all the time if chess.com had that many member i would run into one player every other week not the same player 10 times stating racist remarks because he or she loss a game.

Right now, there are 11,309,603. How many of those have been active recently is another story. That section also shows how many are in live or online at a given time too and it is a lot less
