Chess.com ratings realistic or inflated?

Like estragon says, cc is inflated, live chess less so (and possibly deflated for some).  That's also what I've seen from myself, and others who have current and established ratings in both areas.

You can try using percentage of the population.  i.e., If you're at the 80th percentile, check who is at that percentile in the other system, and then see what their rating is.

Not a bad idea, but for example take a scholastic club and you'll see why this isn't reliable.

Evidently I'm in the 99% here, I think 99% USCF is something like 2300 or 2400... way above me anyway.

Ratings of chess.com are maybe realistic. They in my own opinion measure you according to the games you are playingwhether you are a good player or not.So its just a matter of keeping track of your online games and making sure you play if its your turn.So if you are very busy, its advisable to play games which take a long time like 5 days per move  or  more. But since my work is with computer so its easy to track my online games and so know this is my rating.its just a matter of being commited to your games when it is your turn to play.

klamarson: Ratings of chess.com are maybe realistic.

orangehonda: Can you be more specific?  In your own experience how accurate have they been in comparison to ratings on other sites?

KL:  [ratings] in my own opinion measure you according to the games you are playing whether you are a good player or not.

OH:  I think most people would agree, but actually the topoic we're on is--

KL: So its just a matter of keeping track of your online games and making sure you play if its your turn.

OH: I see...

KL: So if you are very busy, its advisable to play games which take a long time like 5 days per move  or  more.

OH: I see, so making sure you have enough time is very important.  What method do you personally use?

KL: Since my work is with computer so its easy to track my online games and so know this is my rating.

OH: How convenient, I'm sure that's nice.  And what do you think about chess.com's ratings compared to other ratings such as FIDE?

KL: its just a matter of being committed to your games when it is your turn to play.

OH: Well, this interview has certainly been eye opening, thank you for your time.
