I noticed that, as well. Kind of similar to ICC's microtransactions where you can purchase advanced video lessons.

Then again, ICC isn't exactly being wallet friendly lately. Sure, I can get three months for $19.95 and this gives me access to a ton of videos already but now there are dozens upon dozens of new videos up that need to be purchased separately to be viewed. I didn't even realize how expensive they had gotten but many of them are over $10 at this point. I have to say that this is a strike against them in my book. It's just going a little too far now.

I'm already getting really comfortable with the site here on Chess.com. Much moreso than when I was tinkering around with things in the fall. I like a lot of the site's updates and I think I may just wind up keeping my diamond. We'll see. It does seem as though Chess.com is a good fit for my skill and level of experience at this point.

Chess.com really needs a referral system and/or other ways to earn free premium time. It's a win/win for both the site and the community.

edit: Scouring the site I now do see, under the widgets and banners section, that we do in fact have a referral system in place. This needs to be advertised and pushed more. The fact that one referral = one month of premium is pretty cool. Here's the thing, though: Is it one month of a diamond membership?

I agree that this discussion has been pretty unproductive.  Someone should ask Art of War if anyone has improved their chess directly due to their chess.com membership.  If so, who and how?

Yes! Chess.com Bank Account!

If you're going to troll at least make some sense. You're just grouping words together without meaning lol.

I really shouldn't be penalized financially for not wanting to shell out the whole year's subscription fees up front, either.

You're not. The cost is $14/month.

I get a DISCOUNT for letting them have my money upfront.

I hear what you're saying but you're just flipping it upside down. From my perspective I'm still paying more because I'm not paying upfront which I don't think is fair.

Besides, we have no free trial or refund policy here. Additionally, we don't have a referral program as far as I'm aware of.

If you don't think it's fair....don't pay it. No one is forcing you to become a premium member. If you believe other sites provide more value, you can always join those other sites.

This is my first year as a premium member and I've been quite happy with what I've recieved for my money.

There is a certain downward pressure from the site itself, and also a lateral pressure from the other members here to become a premium member.  The social pressure to conform can be overwhelming at times.

+1 I hate peer pressure.

I think the "downward pressure" you are referring to is called "marketing" or "running a business". The lateral pressure is just us paying members getting tired of people who do not pay asking for freebies.

Tigerprowl, just stop working for lower wages and organise trade unions to increase your pay. It would be better for the planet, more sustainable iso all the outsourcing and transporting.

Well your argument in the previous post was about domestic purchasing power. I thought it was a reasonably valid argument, but wanted to encourage you to ask for a pay rise. But since you have the money, the argument is slightly futile.

You can't market chess worldwide like you can an iphone.  Chess.com needs to realize that many countries compared to the US simply don't have equal/the same exchange rates.  The value of Chinese currency is about 1/6 of a US dollar. Earnings are lower too.  People simply can't pay at the same level. Their domestic purchasing power is not equal to the exchange rate.

.. This is not a hard concept.  It has nothing to do with Chinese economy.

which is it? at least be consistent with your nonsense.

"The issue is I don't want to commit to a year".  So you want a Hoolywood marriage with chess.com

What is Hoolywood?

Avatar of RonaldJosephCote

Its a marriage that almost lasts for 6 mins.  He has the money, He doesn't have the money, He wants to commit, He doesn't want to commit. Make up your mind; buy what you want, and get the hell out.

That is a basic rule. You cannot buy what does not exist. Well spotted.

All right, now your making sense. Submit your request to Matt in billing; maybe the'll make an exception. Good luck to you.
