Chess.com titles

Hi everyone, I know what titles are OTB, but on chess.com are the people with titles like "IM" and "FM" masters in real life? As in, do you know if they need to upload proof that they're masters OTB, or if they just need a really high rating online.

To get the red title before your name, you must verify that you have, indeed, received the title.  Chess.com does not give out those titles.

This is usually true. However, I know of one member who reached the FIDE rating needed for the Candidate Master title, but he did not become a Candidate Master as he was not prepared to pay the fee for it. However, chess.com still put a red "CM" next to his name.

The normal procedure is to provide "proof".

It was either a mistake or someone decided a CM strength player without the piece of paper was enough for this site.

Perhaps CM-eligible is a better term than CM-strength. Also, NM is more a category than a title. I don't think USCF has awarded me anything. I am also CM-eligible but I prefer NM because CM sounds too much like "almost a master"...

2200 US (or whatever national requirement for NM differs with country) or 2200 FIDE min.  the USCF CM title does not count as you have according to your uscf profile.

i do not recall the link though for titled membership, though easy enough to find via help staff, site map, etc....

If you haven't heard anything back, you might double check your spam/junk folders in your e-mail. If there is nothing there you might open another ticket requesting a follow-up.

@MitSud, FIDE also awards automatic titles for performance in some events. You can't really judge that by rating.
