Yes, chessmaster is a strong program and it has many lessons for different skills of players so is a good first choice to install.
Fritz is only a strong program. It is a little stronger than chessmaster, but only a grandmaster will be able to tell the difference. Fritz has no lessons.

Not true. Fritz 12 has 12 hours of video lessons; ranging from how the pieces move up to explaining opening ideas. Aside from the videos, you can play with lots of hint options turned on, such as the "show opponents plan" and "the coach" which tells you if you are making a bad move. It also has a mate-o-meter that tells you when a forced mate is possible, and sparring match that alerts the player when a tactic is possible. On top of all this it has attack training, defense training, and visualization and calculation training.
I just installed Fritz 12 about 5 days ago and I love it. My favorite part about it is the handicap games, where the engine adjust to your playing strength and always plays just slightly above your level, a great way to get better. My only complaint is that everything is left for you to figure out on your own, but there is some good info on the internet.
I'm a intermediary chess player. I used to play with freeware programs like Softchess and AlphaChess. I recently purchased both Chessmaster Grandmaster XI and Fritz 12. Will you please advise me which on to install on my computer since installing both takes up an enourmous amount of disk space. Which of the two (CM 11 or Fritz 12) is better for moderate players like me. Could you enlighten me on the advantages and disadvantages of either application and how I could use them to better my game?
