Thank you for your suggestion but I am seeking a decent PC disc version
I'm running Chessmaster 11th - Chessmaster Grandmaster Edition from a iso file. with no issues on windows 10.
you can burn iso to disk, but easer using windows iso software to mount and run., takes uo 2.50 gb of space.
Hello everyone, does any Chessmaster version actually work on Windows 10 ? after 20 odd years I now have some spare time and wanted to get back to playing chess again. I don't know how but I still have version 9000 and it won't load/run. Done a lot of forum reading and it seems it is pot luck as to any version running ok depending who says what. I love CM, I like how I can just pop a disc in and not have to bother worrying should my internet connection fall for some ungodly reason. So, if CM is now just a ghost in the machine, are there any alternates that use disc ? Thank you all.
These two threads might help:

It's been a while, and I'm starting to forget the details, but yeah, all three of the latest versions can be installed in Windows 10 - CM9000, CM 10th Ed, and CM11 (CMGE). I think for all three versions, you'll have to enable DirectPlay. Also, for CM10 and CM11, you may need to deactivate your antivirus during the install process.
Finally, for CM9000, you'll need the earlier "setup.exe" file that's not copy-protected. (My Disk 1 has this earlier file. If you need this file, PM me.) There's one CM9000 bug in Windows 10 that I was never able to get around - When playing engine tournaments, after close to 5 hours of operation, the GUI will crash.
And yeah, I guess you could always set up a virtual machine with an earlier version of Windows and install CM into that.
I was unable to get the game to play
Yes, I know. As I stated earlier, you won't get CM 9000 to work on Windows 10 unless you use an earlier setup.exe file. Do you have the ability to take an ISO file and burn it to a CD? (Or maybe you have a PC geek friend who can do it for you?)
Not being a geek or know one, I do not know what ISO file means ?
I can burn to disks
An ISO file is just a wrapper that contains all the various files on a CD. After you burn the ISO file to a blank CD, you effectively have a new copy of the CD. You'd have to learn how to do the burning process. (Google is your friend.) I use the freeware package Imgburn, and I also like to use rewriteable CDs in case I make mistakes. Maybe Windows has its own burning utility? (I'm not sure.)
Oh, if you can't find blank CDs, blank DVDs should also work. You just wouldn't use all of the space on the DVD.
