Chess is like being caged with starved tigers on coke
Chopping Your Way Past The Dammed 1000's

You won't get much better playing 5 minute blitz games. In order to improve at chess you need to get better in long games. It's like learning how to play an instrument. You need to learn the fundamentals and practice playing the right way before you can start playing faster.

If you get better at chess you'll be nowhere near 1000, if you don't you will stay there. It's not some mythical vortex, just somewhere where people make lots of mistakes and if you make the worst mistakes you'll lose. Make fewer mistakes and you'll soon be up past 1200 and beyond.
This is good advice. Play longer games, work on tactics, opening principles and some basic endgame stuff and you should be able to whip 1000 rated players in no time.

More precisely - drop less pieces, and take more of the opponent's when THEY drop them (you need to notice that they did...)
Tactics trainer can probably help with that. Train your mind to notice hanging pieces. Start avoiding them on your side, taking advantage of them on the opponent's side - you'll get to 1200.

The answer you seek is not easy.
The way to improve in chess is based on facing stronger competition with games based on quality.
The ideal time control would be Classical Time Controls or Standard Time Controls
Currently your ranking seems to be in the range of 1000-1200.
Your stronger competition will often be 100-300 points higher than you.
Since chess.com has a lot of online players in those ranking ranges playing Standard games.
You should seek to play only Standard Games to improve your game.
Eventually you will be forced to play short time controls to get better at chess.
However, that will not happen until you reach a point were you will stop facing stronger competition.

So honored to have so many high ranking players responding to my humble comments. A couple of fellows rated 1800 blitz responded. Rest assured I am a great admirer of anybody who can reach a level that high. Your advice does not go unheeded & I plan to spend much more time with my chess books. Your generosity is preceeded by great ones like Tal & Korchnoi who were always willing to give an encouraging hand to far lesser players like myself. You can confirm this by reading my article titled My Dinner With Brazil,

Do tacitcs trainer a lot it really helps you see patterns and ways to win material. Many arrogant people who are higher rated than you, 1400+ may think 1000-1100 is easy (only some arrogant people are like this) but as an 1850 OTB I know how hard it can be. I spent 2/3 of my chess career in the 700-1100 range. Just keep playing live chess games and do tactics and you'll begin to improve in large chunks.

Play long games. Analyze them. learn tactics then practice them. I went from 456 to now.. though I drank heavily but it's been a year this month and this really helped me lately.

You know Tom_Brady_SB49_Champ brings up a very good point in this post #9.
I think the ranking range of 900-1200 is one of the hardest rankings ranges in chess.
I think the reason it is very hard is because of the lack of information!
You will see and reach positions which have never been seen before!
Your opponents will play moves which no one has ever even talked about.
A zoo, a wilderness, a fighting zone, a harsh place, a fighting scenario, a challenge & a pain in the arse is the range from 1000 to 1100. Swear to my mother I'm going to hatchet my way to 1100 & stay there even rise from there. No matter how many I lose on the way up once I get there I'll continue rising. I'm no chump. I don't care if it takes 1000 games. My rating is rising & I'm getting meaner & meaner with ya'll as the Sons of Africa say. I'm here to do battle &that's wassup ya'll as the dark dark dark Sons of Africa say. Hey ya'll. lol!
