For those who may have been following thisw threads about the the comback of the Chronos Chess Clocks, for those who have wanted a Chronos, I hope you got one, and while it *may* be premature to draw any conclusions, it *looks* as though there *may* be a new shortage developing:
Wholesale Chess usually one of if not the first major distributor to get supplied with Chronos Clocks has now been without any clocks for going on 3-4 weeks now. The Chess House, another major distributor has had no clocks for sale for even longer than that. American Chess Equipment may or may not have some push button clocks for sale, but it is hard to tell since they do not updat their website frequently. The one remaining major distributor The Chess Store has 3 remaining clocks (1 Blue Push Button and 2 Blue Touch Sensors) for sale at about $119.95, and 7 White Push Button clocks for sale at $149.95 -- not sure if this is a misprint since the Blue models are going for $119.95. It could be they just got a limted number of clocks just in, and they jacked up the prices. Ebay another place where there were a number of clocks rangeing from as lock as $99 to $120 are now OUT of clocks in that price range, and overall prices for Chronos Clocks on Ebay have started to creep higher. Is this the beginning of a new shortage? Possible. If no new clocks show up on the market within the next 4 weeks, then the conclusion would be yes. This could be something nothing more than they ran out of parts -- probably LCD panels more likely than not and they are waiting for those parts to come in before they can re-stock the supply chain. If you wanted a Chronos I hope you were able to get one in the event this is the beginning of a new drought.
