I was playing a 10 min game. My opponent had 38 secs left on the clock to my approx 3mins. I made a move and suddenly the opponents clock increased to 1.09 mins. The clock repeatedly kept replacing a certain amount of time the opponent used for the next couple of minutes.
How is this possible? Was this cheating the system?

Chess.com has time-stamping, which I'm sure you know. It shows how much time was used for each move. In none of your recent 10 minute game did you ever have ~3 minutes to your opponent's ~38 seconds.

There might some internet issues, which may account for the time discrepancy. It certainly should not be that bad.

It would also help if you posted the game in question.
