I play the same. I play slower when I am behind and I do this sometimes when the opponent gets cocky.

My advice is, don't be a clock sucker. Just move quickly and get on with it. If you presume anything based on a potentially fleeting advantage it could be the end of you.
How about doing the opposite, what Your opponent wants ? 
act disinterested in the game and write out a grocery list

I wind my opponents side really tight, but I only wind mine a few clicks. I always seem to never have a flag fall that way.
