Grand Douche Magnus Carlsen........for shame
Comment if you agree that Magnus and fabi shouldn’t have drawn
and looking back at game 8, i think it was, if only Fabi had pressed his clear advantage with Qh5 instead of the very tame h3 so maybe the fates of chess have balanced out in the end
sickening! fabi only had a few minutes left to make 9 moves of defense. carlsen had a strong attack. engines agreed with this, and so did the human commentators not using engine. yes if fabi had lots of time on clock he would've been fine but he didn't. carlsen should've at least played out the remaining 9 moves WTF absolutely disappointing
yes a clear winner in the 12 games would have been so much better than that shambles of an ending to what has been great games with this one prob the most interesing.....argh! raging
Kasparov: "In light of this shocking draw offer from Magnus in a superior position with more time, I reconsider my evaluation of him being the favorite in rapids. Tiebreaks require tremendous nerves and he seems to be losing his."
in the vane of Kevin Keegan in the 90s....."i would absolutely love it, love it, if Fabi beats Carlsen in the rapid play"
There has to be some rule change to penalize players for just playing for draws. Someone laughed at my suggestion to lower the prize fund each time a draw occurs but at least something like that would penalize them monetarily creating incentive to be creative and take chances.
i think after 12 games it should go to sudden death where next winner is the champ........if that takes one game or more then so be it someone will eventually crack it would more than likely put more focus on trying to get the win within the first 12 games

Ok, but you'd need an objective way to determine when someone is playing for a draw needlessly, and that would be hard. Engines have no understanding of practical aspects of chess positions, and GMs weaker than, say, 2700 are not good enough to know. However, if you only have a panel of a few 2700 GM judges, there could be bias.

it'd be much more fun if the players were required to drink heavily before the games.
tal would still be world champ if this rule was in place...
no doubt the man was a genius.........after this debacle today something needs to happen to spot such negative play and being overly cautious.......maybe introduce a ferret or release a goose into the procedings
My coach said that he disagrees strongly with the tiebreak idea. He said that if 12 games don't produce a winner, then keep playing til one person wins
Carlsen is a weenie. A bad representative for our game. This is possibly worse than Nakamura's 9-move draw in Millionaire Chess. Possibly.

i think this would be the best outcome......this switching to rapid play after a deadlock is bullsh*t......how after the tough draws can Magnus now be an overwhelming fave suddenly because the game style has changed.....hardly fair
I played several moves with Stockfish from the drawn position. Even though black has less than a point advantage, there doesn't seem to be any solid way to continue without losing his edge.
After Nh3 and Ng5, black cannot capture....so that side of the board goes nowhere. On the other side, the rooks and queens just shuffle around for eternity. There are no pawn breaks or solid moves with the pieces that get anyone anywhere.
It's a draw. Hard to believe with all of blacks pieces spearing the castled king, but they can't do anything.
What a shame ending, Carlsen' s draw offer was just embarrasing, I hope he loses the crown by a huge blunder
