Common Sense Moves

well that settles it then. common sense is common sense and the way to play good chess is just to play smart moves. i know i will do much better now. chess title here i come.
interesting, common sense rhymes with nonsense.

Common sense is common sense, period!
I think after that statement, I'll need some pictures.

Good chess is about knowing what to do, when and why
I'd say most of the skill in chess is about being able to assess a position, and be able to see weaknesses and strengths and know how to use both to your advantage

If only we had as much common sense as Fischer, Kasparov and Carlsen, eh?
So it's common sense to want all the people calling themselves Jews, to be exterminated, and being uber-arrogant while jumping on a desk during class? I'm going to need some pictures.

What the?

The trick is being able to consistently ignore the bad moves... but there are so many bad moves during a game, lesser players get tricked into playing them all the time.
It's true though some GMs have a very clean style. Fischer's games are said to be full of these kinds of "obvious" moves where it seems simple... the trick during a real game is figuring out why any number of equally tempting moves are wrong.

wow, a lot of hate on this thread.
i will say that a lot depends on what is meant by commons sense moves. I think you will be able to go long ways in chess if you can consistently not hang pieces/ not fall prey to easy tactics. But once you start playing people that make those 'common sense' moves, then it takes some real skill to win games.
