@71- You can do it in the actual site, though.

If you're going to repeat a statement, you might want to select one that's not quite so asinine.

Oh come on-- the only thing "childish" is that some people could possibly interpret it that way.

Well, this child will continue to try to play like a gentleman and always thank you for the game, win or lose.

The BIGGEST FAIL ON THIS SITE ARE CONDITIONAL MOVES.

The first statement is unfounded. The second is false.

Zhane, what is it about people trying to speed up the game that bothers you SO MUCH?!
Zhane

Well my friend, like most of the people on here I do like to take my time. If one of my opponents enters a conditional move whilst I'm away, they could at least tell me in advance before I go on vacation.

It can be quite stressful for me as well because I have a future generation to look after as well as playing chess.

Sometimes I feel pressured by these speedy players just to keep up with them, and they don't realise that they also have 3/5/10 days to make a move also. This is the main reason why I don't like them. (conditional moves that is)

But it doesn't actually change anything from your point of view!

You go on vacation, and when you come back you have (for instance) 3 days to make a move in every one of your games. But I, being the sneaky trickster that I am, saw that you were on vacation and played a Conditional Move to make you have to respond quickly to my second move. Alas, my plan has been foiled by Chess.com, since they give you a full 3 days to respond to my Conditional Move!

@Zane, btw did you know that you don't have to response to the conditional move right a way ?

How dare you spell my name wrong kco.

I honestly am going to teach my future generation to play chess correctly without playing a conditional move.

Well, I knew that video killed the radio star...

After reading all of this, I think I have begun to understand Zhane's irritation.

I am currently playing in a 1-day no-vacation tournament.  I went away from home this past weekend.  When I entered my moves, I paid attention to the time and knew I would need to play again within 24 hours.  Because I am aware that conditional moves are possible, I was careful to find internet access about 22 hours later.  I suppose if not for conditional moves, I might have felt comfortable waiting a little longer...but really my opponents could have still signed in and moved right after I did.  Either way, I did find myself hoping that they would take their time and I wouldn't have to worry about playing moves while standing at the library internet station.

That said, I like conditional moves.  Just because they happened to inconvience me once because I chose to play in a non-vacation tournament is no reason to disdain them.  They can be very handy when the upcoming moves are obvious.  For instance, if I capture my opponent's queen, I can be fairly certain he will recapture mine.  Because of that, while I'm still looking at the position, I will go ahead and determine my response and enter it conditionally.

Anyway, as a response to Zhane: I think the real problem is that you are playing too many games.  If you don't want to be swamped with too many games to move in, just don't sign up for so many at once!

troll successful troll, Zac or was it Zachery oh well whatever.

Scenario A:

You make a move, then log out and go on vacation for approx 96 hours. Immediately after you log out, your opponent logs in and makes his or her move. The timer on your side starts once again, awaiting your move (let's just say it's set for three days).

Scenario B:

You make a move, then log out and go on vacation for approx 96 hours. Your opponent has entered a conditional move matching the move you just made, thus his or her move is entered automatically, restarting your three day timer while it awaits your move.

In both of these scenarios, you will have lost on time when you get back from vacation.  So what is the difference between them?

Plus, if you are a Premium member, doesn't your vacation time start automatically if you run out of time?

If you really are taking that many vacations that this is a huge problem, perhaps you should only play games that are seven days per move? 14 days even?

Should none of these workarounds help you, maybe its best to play correspondence through the mail, with no time limits? Surely one month per move would be slow enough for anyone.

"Play chess correctly"? This reminds me of the arguments people have for how they believe castling and en passant (and all other exeptional moves) to be cheating.
AndyClifton

One of my alltime favorite threads was the guy who wanted to "shut en passant off" because he didn't like it!...lol

Condiional moves are a part of CC, just like the rules of chess are part of chess. If someone plays a conditional move, it doesn't change the time you have to move one bit.
TheGrobe
That's true, however it does change the time you have to think, but so does your opponent being online and moving immediately. Should chess.com be implementing a minimum time per move an addition to a maximum time?

It seems to me that this is exactly what some people are asking for...

checkmateibeatu
That may work if it is customizable by the challenger (Just like the maximum time per move, only there will be an opyion not to have it).
