What happened?

I was playing a game against someone in "Live Chess" (as opposed to "Online Chess"), and the game ended suddenly declaring him the winner.  I felt like i was whooping him. I clicked on 5-0 (which i thought meant we each had 5 mins to move), but neither of us, at any point, took 5 minutes.

I searched chess.com looking for the rules to "Live Chess", but couldnt find anything except general chess rules, which i already know. Any info on what the heck happend would be useful.

Or a like to the rules would be nice.  How do you play "5-0" or "2-1" or "2-0"???????

But I took more pieces of his in that 5 minutes, including his queen. So how did he win?

What is winning based on?

What does the "0" in "5-0" mean?

Not trying to sound like a noob, but I cant find any useful info on here about it. I play "online chess" all the time, and win without issue.

You both had 5 minutes to play all your moves, and since you used up your five minutes, you lose on time, no matter the position (Unless your opponent doesn't have the material to win, in which case it would be a draw).

The "0" means that there are no increments: A "1" means that there's a one second increment after every move, so on and so forth.
